The Daringtons are a well to do British family living in Hillfield Manor, a large, prosperous farm in the Lake District. Their no nonsense, quiet life comes to an abrupt end when Walter Woodswill, brother to Mrs. Darington, shows up for a surprise visit. Walter is a very singular gentleman, middle aged and unmarried. Instead of reading and discussing politics like most bachelors his age, Walter begins meddling with the housekeeping and interfering in the upbringing of the Darington children. The housekeeper and governess cannot wait for Mr. and Mrs. Darington to get rid of this troublesome uncle, but the children are determined to have him stay. 

And so the Hillfield Manor adventures begin.
