At first I didn't know if it was just a joke, or if it was real. I guess you never know what's real until you have evidence of it. I kept getting these calls, not just any normal call though. The calls I got, had to do with whether I would live another day or not. If I didn't listen to what the person told me to do, I'd be dead, for sure. Why did this have to happen to me? Why me?

*Mitch POV* I knew something was wrong when I couldn't breathe. It was in the middle of our social studies lesson for the day, and I tried to take a breath. All that happened was worse suffocation. Being twelve, I didn't handle it well. I opened my mouth to try to speak, but all that came out was an odd sounding croak. My teacher hushed me. But someone sitting next to me looked at me and noticed how pale I looked, or noticed that tears were welling in my eyes and I was drooping. I wrapped my hands around my throat seconds before I blacked out. That was only the first instance. In the time that I was unconscious, my lungs filled with fluid and I almost died. I was out for nearly two days, and my parents really thought that I would die. I vaguely remember hearing my mom crying while I couldn't open my eyes, and my dad telling her that maybe it was just my time and they had to let me go. But then I woke up, and the fluid had been drained from my lungs. I spent a while more in the hospital, and in that time, my parents found out that I had cancer. It had been determined that I probably wouldn't live much longer, maybe three months at the most. The conversation was happening outside my room, where I was supposed to be asleep, but I still heard the whole thing. What I remember most is my mom's sobs.Complete

I had first regarded it a prank. A wrong number. A mistake. But the calls wouldn't stop. He was bothering me, disturbing me-- as though I was a selected target. As the harassment escalated, I began to imagine things. I feared every corner, was scared of the dark, began to hallucinate things which weren't real. Why? Why me? Why was this man calling me? Who was he? I had suspicions. The possibilities were endless. There was nothing anybody could do. He wouldn't stop-- so I had to take things into my own hands. ~*~ He tracked me down. As a pretty sane person I knew that ugly incomprehensible things happened but somethings came at you so unexpectingly that you did not even know how to react. Fairytales often painted step parents as these evil beings that did such unimaginable acts which ended up affecting our everyday lives but it wasn't like that with my mother's boyfriend. At least that's what I thought until I found myself somewhere else with a father I knew nothing about, a band that wasn't really a band in my eyes and a past so heavy that going to sleep meant drowning in the horrors of a summer that was meant to be the best time of my life.Complete
