The street lights were just starting to flicker, that meant only one thing the darkness was settling in and i hated that time of day. My rules from the time i was a small child was come home when the streetlights come on. I was not the only kid on the block that had those rules, there were several. The only difference between them and me was they didn't care about running home,I on the other hand hated it to the very core of my soul. As i watched the kids scatter in all directions, some in a full run,i just shuffled along knowing what would happen when i got home. Even though i took my time, i was at my front porch before i knew it or prepared for it. As i reached for the door handle i heard the screeching yell of the words i heard so often, get your ass in here, where in the hell have you been.
