The perfectly normal and happy life of the young Marilyne Junfall falls apart on the day she turns 16. A rare and mutated virus-like gen awakens from its incubation period and affects those around her. She herself doesn't fully turn but she gets powers that seem to come right out of a comic book and when it's dark her eyes turn into a different, glowing color. She flees from the now destroyed place she once called home and meets a group of people who seem to have some sort of resistance. They travel around and they are attempting to find a cure. Mari learns that there are others just like her and she struggles with the budding feelings she starts to get for two very different boys. One just like her and the other who doesn't hesitate to kill anyone related to the virus. Will they be able to find clues regarding the antidote ? And will she be able to hide her new nature so it is love that blooms instead of hate?

WARNING: CONTAINING AMOUNTS OF SASS PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN TO MANKIND In the city of NYC--- Ok. Hold up. First of all, New York City. What, are ya gonna assume everyone here knows what NYC is? Anyway, this is about two people. I can almost hear you rolling your eyes. Another cliché teen fiction with a bad boy and a good girl? Nope. This is about superheroes. I can still hear you rolling your eyes. Superheroes. Like in comic books? Like people with super speed and mutant powers? Yes. But this isn't about the fight they have. More about the lives they lead without the masks. But just keep in mind, people who live in the world have all different skin colours. Do not assume my characters are of one unless I state them explicitly. and diversity is welcome here in my novel! Anyhow, back to the story. Ever wonder where supervillains go after their fight with the hero? What about the other side of the story? It's not like they sit in their lair cackling all day and planning how to kidnap reporters. What about the lives they lead? And instead of just focusing on that, what if the superhero and the supervillain knew each other? I mean, can they see behind the mask? No, so their identities are secret. So what if the hero and villain were best friends? What if they were roommates? What if they were falling for each other? And what happens when they find out? Now, I assume you know all of these questions will be answered in this book. But hold on. It's going to take a while. You're in for a bumpy ride. And if any of you got any of the references in this description, give yourself a pat on the back. That is a beautiful thing. My curse just gave them a reason. You see, the normal population with ordinary DNA, they don't know about the people like me. The roaches of the world. We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. Only, it's soon her that becomes the one lost to the drains. To survive she must rediscover her world, and in the process, rediscover herself. She will be reunited with old friends, gain new ones, find out deeper secrets about her past than she ever could have imagined, and learn that the world is even more corrupt than she always thought. *** This story contains sexist ideology, mention of cheating, some gruesome scenes, and a whole lot of monsters and darkness. It isn't overly mature... there isn't much explicit language or sexual scenes, but there is a bit of violence, so just keep that in mind... and despite all that negativity, ENJOY!Complete
