Griffin and his younger, adopted brother Dash read a book about the ancient, hidden city of Mhist. It is said to be a beautiful city and had a flame that burned for over 100'000 years, something happened to the flame. The boys ask their parents about it, but did not get an answer. So they decide to find out for themselves. They get their friends, Kiki and Heloise to go and find the city.
When they find the city, it isn't at all what they thought it would be. The place is gloomy and at dawn the people always lock their doors and window and hide in fear like there's something or someone they are afraid of.
Are the rumours of the Girl of Night true? Did she really destroy the Everlasting Flame?

The school is just for magical creatures to learn more about themselves and their history. It was made over three hundred years ago and still run by a fairy named Cassiopea and her daughter Cassia. Arion is excited to go because his parents refuse to teach him anything about other magical creatures other than dark magic. They believe it is irrelevant for him to know because they think he will take over the world one day. And why should a leader know anything about his subjects? Arion convinces his parents that if he goes to the school he can do recon on the other magical people so he can learn about them and make it easier for him to take over. With no friends, no siblings, and a very negative outlook on life, he heads to Cassiopeia's School for the Gifted.
