To reach the lunar surface. The mission was a complete succsess. Just upon returning back to the shuttle for a blast back home, a"casual remark" was made by Neil Armstrong. This casual mark would leave a strain of curiosity on the mind of NASA's mission control as well as the dedicated live broadcast viewers.
