Princess Violet wants nothing to do with marriage. At the age of 17, she is prepared to step up and rule her kingdom proudly, justly, and without a husband. However, her father, the king, has very different plans. Because Violet has resisted every man who has asked for her hand, King Rupert devises a plan to force Violet to choose a husband. One hundred suitors are invited to the palace to compete for Violet's affections, each one very different from the next. Out of one hundred nobles from far and wide, which man will she choose?

Set in the late 18th century, this saga of love and betrothal envisions how girls of supposedly 'noble' families were lured into a marriage they do not necessarily want to be a part of. Seventeen year old Eloise is the daughter of a Duchess, a widowed Duchess. Her mother expects a lot from her, perhaps too much. One night, it is revealed that Eloise is betrothed... to a man she has never met. He is due to arrive for their wedding in the late summer and Eloise has no say in the matter. As time passes and Emmanuel proves himself to be a man that Eloise hates, she finds herself being drawn closer and closer to her childhood best friend, Damon. What will Eloise choose? Emmanuel, whom by marrying, Eloise will be able to uphold her mother's reputation, or Damon, with whom her heart lies?
