"You have to run Taya. I can slow them down, but I need you to run." I shook my head at Nate and grabbed his arm. They were going to catch up soon, we just had to keep going.
"We just have to keep running. Once we're across the football field, we'll be fine. Just run with me." I know he was in a lot of pain, I felt like vomiting too, but we were so close.
"Taya, I need you to run baby girl. Please," he croaked out, his voice cracking at the end. I shook my head as tears tracked my cheeks.
"I can't live without you Nate, please don't make me." He just smiled down at me and that's when I knew that he wasn't coming with me. I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed, snuggling my head into his chest like when we were kids. We both knew this would be the last time we felt this.
"I love you Taya. Forever and a half." I bit my lip to keep from sobbing.
"I love you too Natey Poo. Always." He let go and nodded his head toward the field. I touched his cheek one last time before I turned and sprinted towards the field, ignoring the sounds behind me and the tears rolling down my cheeks.
