Zera, Lexi, and Annie live a life full of ups and downs. They live in a place called Inkadellie, where people are separated by if they are rich, poor or inbetween. The are on the poor side. Zera dropped out of school in 10th grade to care for her sisters. Lexi gets a once in life chance to go the rich kid school. Annie finds out she is really sick. And to top everything off the goverment of Inkadellie wants to send away all the poor girl to a mother country to be slaves.

"Would you like to dance?" the boy asks me. I stare deep into his blue eyes, but I can't figure out who he is. He's tall with dark hair and the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. I know everyone at this school, but with his features hidden behind his mask I can't tell who he is. "Sure, I would love to." Did I just say that? I agreed to dance with a random boy who I don't know. He takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor. We dance for a few songs and then he asks me, "Would you like to take a walk? At the end of the path I notice a little fountain surrounded by candles. I wonder if he set this up. We walk over to the fountain and we sit down on the edge.
