After the sixteen-year-old Allie graduated high school in the middle of March, she went to Upland, California, USA to spend her three-month summer. There, her aunt insisted to enroll her to the near-by high school in their area to keep her occupied during her summer stay. She expected to meet some stereotypical cliques but much to her surprise; most of the students in Upland High are nice. Most, because there is a certain group of cheerleaders that are not that friendly and there is also the school’s dangerously quiet bad ass. And not to forget the super energetic and friendly handsome quarterback of the football team.

Allie came to America to spend her summer, not to find love because she doesn’t think long-distance relationships work. But of course, we can never control what we feel towards another person. So the unexpected happened to Allie even though she tries to avoid it. And That One Summer changed it all.

"Are you sure you're okay, sweetie?" she asks. I take the ice pack back. I nod, but it hurts. My brain feels jostled by the littlest movements. "Yeah," I gasp, holding in any acknowledgment of pain. "I'm fine. Thanks." She glances down, and I catch her eyeing my bruised shins. They took the brunt of the impact. "Football," I explain. She nods. "That's a rough sport," she says. A pause. She walks back to her desk. Then, she stops. She turns around. She looks me in the eyes. Her face is solemn. "Hit 'em harder," she instructs. I nod and almost smile. "I will." *********************************************** It's 1998, and seventeen-year-old Stephanie "Stevie" Rogers is attempting the unthinkable: she wants to be the first female football player at Truman High. Too bad the team, headed by her ex and a sexist coach, won't let it happen. Then of course there's her sexist step-dad, who can't know she's playing football or her life as she knows it would end. If it weren't for her cute guitar-playing best friend, Calvin, all hope might be lost. But with his help, and the discovery of a secret so scandalous it could rock the entire school, she may finally get her time under the stadium lights. *************************************************************************** "You're outnumbered. You need allies if you're gonna survive the season. These guys are gonna have your back. You need them." "I don't need anyone," I insist. "Ha," he hiccups. "Yes, actually, you do." He ploinks me on the nose. I scowl. "No one is invincible." I continue to scowl. He sighs. "Just trust me on this one. Okay?" My face softens a little. He's just trying to help. "Fine," I comply. "But don't expect me to smile about it." He grins. "That's too bad. You're pretty when you smile." "Shut up."

Ava Grey is your ordinary, yet ambitious high school girl, enduring life with her friends by her side. Later on, she finds out that the school's jock is her next-door neighbor, and they form a unique and inevitable connection. Asher Cooper is the well-known jock at Eastwood High School. Although he has serious issues in his real life, he's good at hiding them and his emotions. He forms a special friendship with Ava Grey and decides to provide her with unforgettable adventures and memories to liven her senior year, yet he doesn't like how good she is at reading his lies and true feelings. Does their valuable friendship last? --------------- " How about we forget about everything that's happening in our miserable lives right now and just be ourselves ?" I say all in one deep breath with a really convincing voice. " Under one condition, brunette." " Did I mention you're also very complicated ?"I point out as she rolls her eyes. " Your condition ?" " Later on, you tell me about your miserable life, because I feel like I just told you about my past, present, and soon enough I'll start talking about my future. So?" I sigh, running a hand through my hair. " Whatever you want, Grey." She smiles. " Now my idea?" " I like this side of you, Asher Cooper and I hope I see more of it. " " Don't get used to it Grey, because for now you'll have to see the competitive side of me. " and with that I smack the ball out of her hands as she gasps and I start dribbling the ball away with my feet that are full of energy. --------------- What happens to this strong and valuable friendship?
