Jack is a mechanical prodigy. His passion lies among the pipes and catwalks of The Conservatory, the heart and power plant of Cogrind, A machine city, where every street, shop, and plaza can shift and move to the citizens' whim. Marvelous tinkerings and inventions are imagined and forged daily, and all citizens live, work, eat, and sleep as one. Apprenticed under a living legend, Jack is destined to become the next Master Tuner, the man who makes the whole city run on time, until something that shouldn't exist almost kills him. Sallah is a vicious huntress among the ever-sprawling forest of The Greensea. Born into the House of Hawthorne as a Druida, a leader among the Twelve Houses of Dara, and shaman that can bow Nature to her will. The Twelve Houses are a cutthroat society where the Houses vie for supremacy through cunning and strength. With her ascent to leadership, a cruel and sacred rite is enacted that will cost either her own life, or the lives of the two people she cares for most. Both will uncover fractures of an ancient conflict that seem to link the two disparate societies. Both will make choices that will unknowingly force them together, and if they can survive, both will find there is a far darker conspiracy that connects both Jack and Sallah, as well as their people.

Long ago, in a world not dissimilar from our own, seven powerful mysterious weapons were forged. After centuries of dormancy, safely hidden from those who could abuse their power, one man's curiosity drove him to discover the resting place of one such weapon: an indestructible sword with a deep desire to be unleashed upon the world. Even though he failed to free the blade, he inadvertently woke it. The weapon cursed him, dooming the oldest in his bloodline to hear the its call, enticing them to follow in his footsteps and seek it as he once did. After the man died, the sword's ever increasing cries for freedom latched onto his only son. This is his tragic tale. --Credits-- Book cover: Canva AI-generated images: Imagen 3 Proofreading and flow improvements: ChatGPT -- You can also find this story on Royal Road (by unholy_sweetrolls).
