Growing up as best friends, Jermaine Cole and Maliyah Santiago always knew what their dreams would be. But things took an unexpected turn when Jermaine didn't get accepted to the same college as Maliyah. He lost all hope and ended up moving away to Atlanta with some family members, leaving his best friend behind. Back home in New York City, Maliyah prepared herself to start her life without the most important man in her life. As time goes by and the two settle in their new lives, no matter how hard the effort, they lose contact and slowly drift apart.
When they cross paths back home two years later, the two are surprised to find their former best friend in the arms of another. Although they promised to always be there no matter the distance, the two drifted apart into two different worlds. They slowly realize that the other has evolved into someone else. Jermaine, now deep into the life of drug dealing and crime, no longer has the spark Maliyah used to adore. In turn, Maliyah's lost the independence and control she once had and candidly moves through life with a childlike innocence.
They get back in contact and they slowly realize they need each other now more than ever. Maliyah and Jermaine stay in contact and rekindle the relationship they once had. The more time they spend together the more they question the relationships they're currently in. They can't seem to separate from one another. Will this be the beginning of a new love story, or will this be the end of their friendship if things don't work out?
