The Hunt

"Y-You want me to do what?" The woman sighed, clearly annoyed with me. "The hunt, we want you to do the hunt." "What's the hunt?" The woman took a sip of 'wine', before continuing. "The hunt is an ancient tradition, dating back to the earliest times of our kind." She swished the liquid, paying me no attention. "It was designed to give mortals such as yourself a chance, not that it did much good in the beginning." The other occupants of the room chuckled darkly. I licked my lips, they where dry and a little chapped, bouncing my knee up and down I asked my next question. "If I win?" The woman seemed ready to laugh, as if I had suggested I had just seen bigfoot doing the jitterbug with Godzilla, or something just completely ridiculous. "You get your life back." "If I lose?" She gave me an evil grin, like a cat eyeing a bird. "You become the pursuer's mate for the rest of your miserable existence." I gulped. "If I refuse to do the hunt?" "You lose."
