The doorbell sounds and I get up from my bed and shuffle down the steps to the front of my house.
I sigh, "Leah, you have keys! You can open the door yourself, you lazy hoe!"
I laugh, expecting my blonde haired friend to be standing in the doorway with a glare on her face.
Instead, I hear nothing in reply and I peek through the peephole to see nothing there.
Suddenly curious, I open the door and look around, gazing up and down the street as well as around my porch.
There, on the worn-out welcome mat my mom insists on putting out, was a single white tulip.
I smile, picking it up.
They're one of my favorite flowers, it must've been a close friend.

Sometimes, there's more than meets the eye. A third person helps point it out.

"Just get ready and open the door. I need your help."
I sat down on the edge of my bed staring at the window. The sky was still dark. Did I want to go? "Nah, I think I'll stay inside."
I heard a sharp intake of breath on the other side. "You serious?"
I laughed. "Yeah, I'm serious. I'm not moving an inch."
Of course, I was lying. I was slipping on my boots when I heard a long sigh. He said, "What do you want if you come help me?"
