"Aaron stared in horror as Ace fell to the cracked earth beneath his feet. The ground beneath Aaron began to rumble as if it were a volcano ready to blow. Diggers began to burst out of the ground in a horrific swarm of claws, teeth, and flesh. Gunner got swept away by the giant scorpion, screaming as he was dragged through the dust. Mary took a digger's claw right through her thigh and joined the pack on the ground, struggling desperately to defend themselves from the onslaught. Ace looked Aaron directly in the eye with a look to such despair and anger that he was helpless to be able to save them.
