***true first draft*** CW: physical violence and some scenes with potentially graphic violence, mentions of SW, depression A story of death and darkness. Magic and murder. Evelyn Mintarryl - duchess by adoption - has spent nearly eight years adapting to life in the elegant and civilised court of Zyrna, the colonizers of her homeland, the Isle of Light. Living with her uncle Don in the city of Teryon, she has managed to make friends with the country's lords and ladies, the crown prince, Richard Varhindal, among them. Her life of parties and lunches is shaken by the violent murder of a young courtesan from Eve's homeland. The first murder in Teryon since Eve has lived there, she can't help but get drawn in, especially when she realises it could have been her in another life. Against her friends' and family's wishes, she begins to pull at the thread, unraveling a world of corruption and racism she never imagined existed. But with each step closer to discovering the truth, she gets further from her friends and family. She must find the killer, or risk losing everything dear to her.
