Sapphie lives in a world where monsters and magic are real, feared and desired. Sapphie is just like any other girl trying to find a place in the world. When she stumbles upon an old hotel, she realizes it's the hotel where the majority of the zombies in her region are forced to "live". Going in to explore, she meets a group of mysterious travelers. They allow her to join their group, showing her how beautiful and ugly the world really is. During their travels, they find out Sapphie is more than she knows.

Monsters and mythical creatures are real. They are very real indeed, as well as magic. We just can't see it... There is an island on our world, one where they roam and have their own sophisticated society, mostly keeping to themselves. Mostly. One of these creatures is named Bianca. She has to travel to where the humans live, that's where she gets her food. One day, she goes in for the kill like normal, but can't continue. On the way home, she kept asking herself over and over again, "Why couldn't I kill him?" After realizing she has fallen for him, she returns to her hunting spot.
