Cailin Quinn is a sixteen year old tragedy, who is bullied by everyone. Her father is all she has, along with her sports for support. Cailin's little sister Tari, is fourteen and dying from a cancer. Cailin has supported her, and comforted her. When Tari dies, Cailin becomes lifeless, trying to help her dad.
Hayden Evergreen new boy moves to Rosetown, Saskatchewan, during this depressing time and observes how Cailin acts, how she is treated at school. Of course, Cailin didn't want to get involved, but when he speaks to her first and helps her, that changes.
When Hayden starts to sit next to her, talk to her, and even invite her to the football games, Cailin is unwilling to tell him anything in fear of getting hurt. He is persistent and careless for what the other people say about him making an effort to speak to her.
