The doctor walked through the swinging doors, the doors that I had been watching for hours waiting for my mother to come out of them, laughing and smiling telling me that she was okay, that everything was going to be okay. But when the doctor came out walking over to us with his shoulders slumped, and his head down, I knew in that moment nothing would ever be okay again, that she was gone and was never coming back.
