Kate is a nineteen year old living her dream life. Living in New York City, in an apartment by herself, enrolled in one of the top design schools of the United States that she just transferred into. She should be drowning in happiness, shouldn't she? Unfortunately, she is not. 
Aaron, her boyfriend of two years was one of the sweetest guys she knew when she met him. However, things have spiraled downhill since he has started drinking and he threatens to harm himself when she suggests breaking up. 
Kate has next to no friends because she is constantly trying to make Aaron happy, and along the way she has forgotten to make herself happy as well. 
Then one day, came Ben, her apartment neighbor. Ben  is a soon-to-be therapist and has a passion for happiness. Kate can't quite understand how he always has a genuine smile on his gorgeous face, and is intrigued. 
However,  if Aaron finds out Kate is talking to Ben, he will totally flip. Kate desperately wants to fix her relationship with Aaron, but they say the grass is greener on the other side..
