Bert Ripley is a man in his 50s who lived in the life of grief ever since his wife and son traveled to Germany in 1939, and dissapeared forever when World War II emerged.
Now it is 1949, not too many years after the war ended. Bert decided to live under the shade of his old house alone in the middle of the streets of Maine. That is until he came across a strange child who lived in the trees with owls. He took the child home with him hoping she belonged to someone, but little did he know the girl would change his life forever. The girl he brought home was a sign that he needed to move on, she helps him survive by holding his hand and taking him through a journey in her own eyes, the way she sees the world.
