"Were we just a joke?" I questioned not really wanting to know the answer. "Was it all fake?" I tried swallowing that ever returning lump in my throat.
"No," he said almost hurt. He shouldn't be hurting, that should be me feeling upset. "of course not."
"Just tell me one thing," I said. I could feel the tears threatening to spill over. I squeezed my eyes trying to prevent the tears. He nodded his head "and please don't lie."
"What's that?" he asked.
I opened my eyes and saw the tears that streaked his face. "Tell me that you love me."
He stared into my eyes with his deep brown ones before answering. "I can't." he whispered. Then he turned around and walked towards his gate.
