Danielle's motto: life is a privledge, not a right. In Earth's last remaining city, Chantist, everyone is ranked, given a number. Unfortunately, there is a strict capacity limit, only 10,000. In the aftermath of a mysterious event Dani is given a strange proposition to be a "high number" in a "higher square number," meaning she can now live the life of the privledged. But when an intriguing boy suddenly goes from #5 to off the charts, Dani recognizes the unique power she has to change her city forever.

In a world ravaged by a mysterious plague that reanimates the dead, 18-year-old Cameron Sanchez is thrust into a brutal new reality where every day is a fight for survival. Gone are the comforts of home, school, and safety-replaced by desolate cities, rotting corpses, and the unrelenting need to stay alive. But for Cameron, survival is not just about herself. It's about protecting the only family she has left: her quiet, resilient younger sister, and her wounded but determined father. As society crumbles and humanity becomes more dangerous than the undead, Cameron faces impossible choices that threaten to shatter her moral compass. When her family is threatened, a voice deep inside her begins to rise-a colder, calculating side she never knew existed. The part of her that will do anything to survive. Haunted by what she might become, Cameron must confront the terrifying question: how far is she willing to go to save the people she loves? And when the line between the living and the dead starts to blur, will she lose the very thing she's fighting for-her humanity? In this gripping dystopian tale of love, loss, and transformation, Cameron Sanchez must learn that the most dangerous battles aren't always fought with weapons-but within.
