Everyone's taking bets. How long will it take for painter, party girl and certified city slicker Steff Callahan to go out of her mind in sleepy Emperor Bay? Not long, Steff has to admit, if she can't find anywhere that sells a decent Shiraz. Or if her nosy neighbour has anything to do with it. Or if big, sexy, perpetually grumpy marine biologist Nate Somers continues to have a problem with everything she does. Between making the biggest deal of his career and dealing with his trainwreck of a sister, the last thing Nate wants is another one-woman cabaret act on his doorstep. So why does he always wind up kissing Steff every time they're alone together? And what's he supposed to do if it turns out the loose cannon artist is the cause of half his problems... but the solution to the rest?

Emma Clarke, a dedicated architect from New York City, is assigned to Harbor Creek, a sleepy beach town, to construct an environmentally friendly hotel. Unfortunately her whole life up until now has been centered around her career, which in turn has left her with no time for love or self examination. Harbor Creek is supposed to be just another project, but it soon proves to be much more. In Harbor Creek, Emma meets Nate Harper, a former travel photographer who now runs his family's bed-and-breakfast after a personal tragedy. Nate is happy with his small, peaceful life in the small town and does not want anything to do with the hotel project that emma has been working on. Nate sees the project as an intrusion on the quaintness and tranquility of Harbor Creek, and he isn't afraid to voice those sentiments. Although they are complete opposites, emma is attracted to nate's relaxed, and easy going attitude. His presence and the tranquility of the town begin to chip away at the fast-paced, career-driven persona she's built over the years. The longer she is in harbor creek, the more her priorities change. But Nate has a past that he can't escape that he refuses to reveal, and Emma's dreams of having a career catch up to her when it's time for her to complete her project for her major. Both face their own emotional battles-Emma, deciding if love and personal happiness are worth sacrificing her career for, and Nate, wrestling with the idea of moving on from his past. Their blossoming relationship is put to the test with these individual hardships, the hotel looming over head, and the emotional barriers they've both constructed. While dealing with their fears, Harbor Creek serves as the setting for a love story involving healing, self-discovery, and the strength of moving on. Will emma gamble her career for thru happiness? Is Nate going to be able to look into the future with Emma and find it in his heart to let go of the past?
