Layn is not a girly girl. She wears black skinny jeans, band t-shirts, and combat boots to school. She doesn't style her hair, instead she has bed head. oh, and braces are definetly not attractive. Also, her family is poor, as in living at a trailer park poor.

One day, Layn is walking to school when she sees a flyer for a beauty pageant, and the prize is $500. Layn is determined to win her parents this money so they can live somewhere nicer, but the problem is she doesn't know how to be beautiful. She also doesn't own anything nice to wear.

Even though she has all these problems, Layn finds a way to be beautiful with a little DIY beauty. She also finds out the more pageants she wins the closer she is to helping her parents. Now Layn has to do one thing she thought was impossible: Be beautiful. Through all this though she will have to face drama, and the choices any young girl has to make about true beauty. This book shows the trials and tribulations of being a beauty queen.
