Elise is 17 and has lived in a small town called Edgartown all her life,so have Elise's parents. She is popular has a gorgeous boyfriend and a loving family. However one day her dad calls a family meeting to tell the family that he is being relocated to Napa Vally in California, this is the second time that Anthony Bryon has been relocated but the first time his said no and was demoted but now its either he moves or he will be laid off, so the family move. Elise is forced to leave her sister who attends the community college in her home town and chooses not to leave. She is also forced to leave her friends, home, boyfriend and her old life and start fresh in california over 2000 miles away.
