Julia, Nurse, Nurse Julia. Whatever. I'll be right back with your papers." Sixteen-year-old Abigail Moore, also referred to as Ginger by her boyfriend Cameron Wood, has lived a terrible sixteen years. She grew up with her drug-addict mother who didn't care enough to properly raise her, and she's stuck living alone for a good amount of her teenage years. Once Abigail's mother got put in jail for suspected murder of Abigail's older sister, Julia, Abigail is forced to live with her aunt. Abigail and her aunt get along very well, and she grows up safe and in no harm. Although her life and goals seem set straight and simple to her, her mother and others are always watching, just waiting in Abigail's shadows for the perfect time to strike, and take their next victim in the creepy and deathly darkness of Brett Creek in Colombia Falls, Maine. It's hard to be surprised by such news when it is the only memory you possess. Superpowers are just a fact of life at that point. The superpowers news turned out to be quite original for the rest of the world, which was entirely unaware someone like her existed at all. There is, however, an underground world of others like her, a criminal empire working toward something she had been trying to stop. But with no knowledge of what the villainous plan was, who these criminals were, or how to properly use her powers, things seem grim. She knows she is the only one who can stop them, and the only backup she has is a man who claims to have been her friend from before the accident. Will she be able to train her powers up, and stop the devious master plan before it's too late?

With no other options, the two journey outside the wall to study the monsters beyond, selling the information they find to the city in exchange for their support. While dangerous, they manage the task fine until one journey out they stumble across a disturbing, gruesome revelation that reveals not only more about the city, but the end of the world as a whole. As the duo begin to pull on the thread and tangle themselves slowly into its snare, they begin to realize there's a lot more to this apocalypse than they ever could have imagined, and that the horrific beasts they've been studying might be the least of their concerns...
