"How can I sleep when the darkness only makes the silence emptier? When the emptiness only reminds me of what I have lost? When the loss I am suffering makes it impossible to breathe?"

For Lauren Heartly to survive the crash at all was a miracle on its own. But to still get out of bed every morning after all she had lost... well, that took a rare kind of courage. Lauren falls into a silent ghost of her former self as she is passed from home to home, finally settling with an adoptive family, the Shirelands. Lauren's mind convinces her that she and this new family have never met before, but can she deny how she instantly feels at ease in their company?

Though names and faces may have slipped through her memory, Lauren begins to uncover the truth behind her sister's disappearance on the Dark Night. Was the crash really an accident? Can she trust her new family and the boy she can't have?

"Sweetheart wake up. You're at the hospital." I looked up and saw the same woman hovering over me. "Oh...okay." I opened my eyes fully and noticed that I was already in the hospital bed. Why on earth did she have to wake me? "So why am I here?" I asked confused. "Well," she said pulling a short and skinny woman into the room. "This very sweet lady saw you on the side of the road and called 9-1-1." I looked up at her and she threw me an evil look. In a way, she seemed strongly familiar. I looked away slowly diving my eyes back into the direction of the nurse. "Before we leave you, I just wanted to let you know that my name is Julia. You can call me whatever works best for you. Julia, Nurse, Nurse Julia. Whatever. I'll be right back with your papers." Sixteen-year-old Abigail Moore, also referred to as Ginger by her boyfriend Cameron Wood, has lived a terrible sixteen years. She grew up with her drug-addict mother who didn't care enough to properly raise her, and she's stuck living alone for a good amount of her teenage years. Abigail and her aunt get along very well, and she grows up safe and in no harm. Although her life and goals seem set straight and simple to her, her mother and others are always watching, just waiting in Abigail's shadows for the perfect time to strike, and take their next victim in the creepy and deathly darkness of Brett Creek in Colombia Falls, Maine. "Last night, I had a dream the world ended. Half the population disappeared, and unfathomable eldritch beasts shambled out of an unending darkness." In a world with no sun and bloodthirsty creatures roaming the all consuming dark, the only places still safe are the small compounds that managed to get walls up before all came crashing down. Now, life is simple. Stay inside the walls, and you'll stay alive. It's not relatively easy anymore, though. With no one for company but each other, danger lurking only a few yards away from their homes, and half of their loved ones swept away in a mysterious event known only as 'The Vanishing', the morale of the populous is at an all time low. It's only getting worse for some, as their cities that are supposed to be providing for them are failing to do so. Survivors Wesly and Valentine aren't content with this, however, especially since Val's mother desperately needs life-saving medicine that the city just won't send. With no other options, the two journey outside the wall to study the monsters beyond, selling the information they find to the city in exchange for their support. While dangerous, they manage the task fine until one journey out they stumble across a disturbing, gruesome revelation that reveals not only more about the city, but the end of the world as a whole. As the duo begin to pull on the thread and tangle themselves slowly into its snare, they begin to realize there's a lot more to this apocalypse than they ever could have imagined, and that the horrific beasts they've been studying might be the least of their concerns...
