Eli Day has always been an outsider in the small eastern Kentucky town he was born in. He become used to taking work he doesn't like. But the last odd job he was offered from his estranged father was more distasteful than most...

He was hired to kill a woman. 

Unable to sleep with the questions about the unknown woman, he returns to her house and meets her husband - the town's Sherriff.  Next thing Eli knows, he's waking up to find the dead body of his on- again, off-again girlfriend in his motel room.

He's arrested for the wrong murder but, perhaps, the right reason.

The secret to solving a mystery is a matter of asking something who doesn't know it's a seceret. As Eli stumbles towards his own end the truth that led to his odd life start to come out. 

But will Eli stay alive long enough to hear any of it?
