Roland is not your normal 13 year old, even before the first chapter rolls out. Out of random, as it seemed to Roland, he was brought to a strange academy where kids walk around with animals of all sorts, like it's no big deal. Or against some sort of health code.
As Roland starts to get in the groove with the academy (named after some one familiar to him), all sorts of things start to happened, and Roland is caught in the lead of a war he only dreamed about.
Okay, they were nightmares, but you catch his drift.
