Sky was born and raised into a dinosaur family. She didn't really have a choice, her uncle being Alan Grant from the original Jurassic Park. He was the oldest and strongest of a pack of five Velociraptors. The other four were all successfully hatched as females unlike Moon. Arguments ensued before the final decision of having Moon placed in his own pen right next to the females was decided. When Owen, The Velociraptor Trainer, came in to train Moon, he wouldn't have it. After a long while, Moon decided to just deal with it. When the Indominus Rex broke free, Moon stood to protect the one that had protected him so many times.
