Many say that Uryu Ishida is the last Quincy, a race of humans who went extinct 200 years ago. However, they're wrong. Sixteen years ago, a Quincy and a Soul Reaper fell in love, married, and bore a child: a daughter by the name of Rei Asaka. Legend says that a child of a Soul Reaper and a Quincy shall have the strength and powers of both, and wield both the Bow and a zanpakuto, capable of either killing or Purifying Hollows by choice, and hold the key between life and death. Such power has been feared for generations, until the legend came true.
Now Rei is feared and hated by the Soul Reapers and Society. Her parents are gone; her mother died, and her father has disappeared to who knows where. She has nowhere to go, until she meets Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki, who take her on and help her all they can.
As time goes on, Rei's ability grows to phenomenal proportions, and she because a critical ally to the Soul Society, whether they like it or not. She's faced down and defeated every Hollow she's met, and hasn't been beaten once. She quickly proves her worth, and earns a high ranking position in Squad 6, under the lead of Byakuya Kuchiki himself. It seems as though she's unbeatable, except for a certain someone.
That someone is Haruto Nakami, a seventeen year old, good-looking Soul Reaper with such strength that can only be compared to those of Ichigo or Rei. He's also the very first one to have ever beaten Rei in a duel, and soon becomes her friend, classmate in the World of the Living, and rival in both worlds. To make things even worse, Rei owes Haruto for saving her life. However, though Rei remains oblivious, Haruto slowly begins falling for her.
Meanwhile, a new threat is emerging, one that seems to be able to control all the Hollows, and is determined to destroy the living world and Soul Society by opening the Gates of Hell and unleashing the horrors within. And the key to opening the Gates is none other than Rei Asaka.
