On a planet where sentient vegetation controls the jungles, the native Avians have built their civilization in the arid wastes, constantly on the lookout for encroaching plants and kept in resources and medicine by the brave Milkers who slip into dangerous territory to retrieve what they can.
Tr'lia, a young hen with more good sense than bravery, meets a brilliant Milker during the annual festival and finds herself thrust into his dangerous world. Along with her panicky friend, Lili, the girls stretch the limits of their safe existence and learn that some things are worth risking everything for.
