Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. The girls whip around a corner, nearly taking out a wandering parent, who had enough common sense to swiftly hop out of the way. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Keeping an eye at the finish line, she hurtles forward, breaking away from the other competitor and eagerly pushing her body past its limits. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. A twitch. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. A slight falter. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. She keeps moving, never slowing down, for the fear of loss is taking over and the adrenaline kicks in. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. The spray painted line is soon behind her and the ringing in her ears gets louder, battling any thoughts she has. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Another twitch. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. She is walking now. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Another falter in her step. Breathe. Breathe. Breat-. Panic ensues around her, as her eyesight blurs over and everything she holds near and dear slips between her fingers.

"Is she breathing?" a male voice asked. It didn't sound familiar at all, so it was probably a police officer or medic. Then again, nothing sounded familiar right now. I could hear screaming and crying all around me. I felt soaking wet and hot at the same time, which I didn't think was possible and I could feel someone gently shaking me. "Uggggnnnnnmmm," I groaned. "She's alive! Come on kid, wake up," another man exclaimed. "Nooooooooooo," I groaned again. I felt so tired, I just wanted to go back to sleep, but whoever was shaking me wouldn't stop. My eyes slowly opened, squinting at the bright lights that were shining all around me. Two men were hovering over me and they weren't who I thought they would be.
