Fidiania Cornelia Antina is the cherished only daughter of one of Rome's wealthiest families, second only to the imperial household in influence. Beloved for her generosity toward the less fortunate and her affection for animals, she moves seamlessly between the grandeur of royal banquets and the bustling streets of the Eternal City. Yet, her privileged life is not without its constraints. Her father, a cunning royal advisor driven by the pursuit of power, has arranged her betrothal to Emperor Geta-a fiery young man with a taste for excess and revelry. While Geta's ambition leaves her uneasy, his elder brother, Caracalla, offers her the only reprieve in her gilded life. As her closest confidant, Caracalla listens to her dreams and doubts about a future bound by duty. Despite her affection for both brothers, Fidiania resists the idea of marriage, dreading a life confined within the palace walls. Her mother, sensing her reluctance, takes matters into her own hands by inviting Acacius into their home and lives. As the son of her father's fallen ally and a decorated commander of Rome's legions, Acacius is a figure of both strength and honor. Stern and pragmatic, he challenges the whims of the imperial court, often clashing with the indulgent ways of her royal companions. Despite their differences, Fidiania cannot deny the pull of his sharp intellect and unyielding determination. Her mother's not-so-subtle encouragement of this potential match only deepens her inner conflict. Caught between her father's ambitions, her mother's schemes, and her own desires, Fidiania must navigate the treacherous waters of Roman politics and personal loyalty. As the weight of expectation presses down, she begins to question whether her heart and her freedom can ever coexist.
