The door opened with a creak that declared a warning, not of the intruder, but to her. A waft of foul air slapped her in the face. Darkness surrounded every inch of the room. She gulped as fear gripped her heart, remembering the warning, 'If they find you, they'll kill you.' Willing it away, she made her way down the stairs, wincing with every groan they uttered. When she'd at last reached the bottom, she shakily removed the box of matches from her pocket, but gasped and dropped them when something whacked her in the face. Squinting, she made it out to be a chain that connected to what she assumed was a lightbulb. She pulled downward and the basement was flooded with light. When her eyes adjusted, a horrified scream tore from her throat.

An eerie silence echoed through the house at the end of Yellow Brooke Street, the wind outside slammed toward the wooden walls making a whistle inside the house from the cracked windows; the front door made a thud each time it slammed toward the wall and the screams from the dead gave the house an uneasiness to it. I stood before the house, while my friends were excited to do the exact opposite of what our parents told us to; I was not. I trusted my mother when she told us to never get close to this place. "You guys ready?" Diana said with joy in her voice, I stuttered. "No.." the fear in my voice was obvious, though no one seemed to care. Dan glanced at me and chuckled. "Really? It's just a house." "It's a haunted house." I said nervously. "Maybe we should trust our parents on this, they told us that it isn't safe for a reason." "You wimp." Diana joked, she wasn't serious; it was just to get me with them and of course she knew that it would work. "It's fine if you don't want to Luna." Lucas said, at least he was cool about it. "I-I'm not a wimp!" I stumbled on my words. "Yey!" Diana said happily and rushed toward me with her arms open. "I'll buy you McDonalds after this." I hugged her, even though I wasn't happy. I looked at the time. 12.20am
