To someone that isn't paying much attention, it seems that everyone in the kingdom of Arthronia will have a happily ever after. This would seem especially true for Nathaniel Derrington: at eighteen his unparalleled knack for stabbing dragons wins him a spot in the royal guard, a respectable position with a fat paycheck and almost zero responsibility.
But to someone that is paying attention, things aren't looking so hot.
1.) Political tensions are rising.
2.) Magic is starting to run out.
3.) Nathaniel is completely gay for his employer.
You know, the King.
When a royal ball takes a turn for the worst, Nathaniel is thrown into a new kind of adventure. A kind where sanity is no longer a requirement, honesty isn't the best policy, and good people don't always get happy endings.
