The Sands of Time: The traveler, the desert, and the rod

In a whole other galaxy where the planet known as thraia had fallen victim to an ever-expanding desert, an inter-dimensional rift had broken the fabric of the universe, causing our world to fall prey to the sands of time. The year is 2027 and it has been almost seven years to the date since the desert was let loose upon the prosperous planet of Earth. The sands of time are unlike any other desert. It lives; it grows; but worst of all it consumes everything in its path. Every year the last tribes of Earth's survivors are forced to sacrifice their current leaders, causing the last of the planet's fully living organisms to dwindle. With every sacrifice made the desert seems satisfied and doesn't send forth any of "Them" to destroy the last of humanity. However, there seems to be a break in the chaos and bloodshed as a lone traveler comes forth claiming to have the key to humanity's survival and the end of the Sands of Time and its ever-growing threat.
