In a future society, seventeen-year-olds are shown some decisions that will ensure a happy and successful future for them in the form of a dream. Strict rules are placed in this society that prohibit the creation or viewing of any meaningful, powerful stories, poems, etc. Serena can't seem to stick with these rules, as hard as she tries. When she wakes up from this series of decisions with no recollection of what she's seen and the rest of the school on a lockdown, she knows she has caused whatever happened, and she knows she has ro save herself from whatever the government will do. She soon realizes that there is a world outside of her society, that contains more deep works of art, with more meaning than she's ever imagined...
