"You," Her eyes widened as she recognised the voice.

"Smell," She choked down a sob.

"Divine," Isla screamed again.

Without thinking, she threw the bag with all her might and at the same time ran blindly towards what she hoped desperately were the stairs.

Instead of feeling the railing, she ran straight into a solid wall of ice-cold flesh. She stopped dead.

Whimpering softly, her breath coming out in gasps, she slowly spread her fingers and ran them over hard lean chest; she touched small puckered nipples, then a collarbone, then a jawline.

She did not realize she was mumbling until a slender hand encircled her neck and squeezed slightly. "No...must be dreaming...no...can't die...Leslie will...kill me...need to wake...up."

"But you're not dreaming my sweet. Can you not feel my pleasure?" He pressed himself against her and Isla's eyes widened further. "That is real." He squeezed her neck tighter. "This is real.'

Young witches Isla, Isabeau and Ashra race against time to end a spate of attacks on their peers with the assistance of the grumpy not-at-all-assisting vampire Arden while still navigating all the horrors of teen life.

All Arden wants is to return to the long sleep but the three witches only care about saving their tiny, irrelevant town. For once, this old vampire would rather avoid puny humans and their silly problems but Arden rarely gets what he wants.

Follow the unlikely heroes on their road of discovery and even redemption.

The whole camp was filling with smoke. I coughed, praying that my lungs would keep working for just a few more minutes. "Eli, which way is west?" Adam's breathing was just as labored from physical exertion, smoke, and panic as mine was. I didn't even process the question. I didn't know. We couldn't see anything through the smoke because the fire was spreading so quickly, and I just realized I'd forgotten my walkie-talkie. "Don't know!" I answered. Adrenaline was the only thing that kept my feet going. I knew we'd come in the East Gate, and if the cells were in the center, then if we kept going straight, we were going to find the gate any second. "Keep straight!" I instructed. I saw his head bob slightly, acknowledging my delayed direction. Then Adam cried out beside me, and I stopped short. I reached for his body involuntarily as he pitched forward, nearly causing him to take me down with him. My left hand was soaking wet from where it had landed on his shoulder. I winced as I tried to steady him, not daring to look at what I knew would be a pool of blood in my hand. ☁ Now that they have a new ally on their side, they're looking to change the United States for good. At some point, they want every camp freed and every teenager home safe. But each new camp brings an endless supply of new challenges. Things are beginning to spin out of control. Follow each of them as they discover who they are, who they love, and more of their country's secrets than they could ever dream of in a thrilling trilogy told from all five points of view.

I used his now still chest to push myself up on steady hands, puffing a loose hair out of my face I considered the head, barely attached to the side of the vampire's shoulders. Then I retrieved the short sword at my back, while I swung the sword in a full arc, I expelled a small huff of breath and severed the head of the monster that had stolen Isabelle. The vamp's mass now blocked the front door, so I threw the head out the opening and heard it thump down the stairs. I felt eyes watching me. I scanned my surroundings expecting to witness the mystery vampire from earlier attempt to sneak up on me. Instead, I met the dull brown eyes of a little girl curled up in the corner. "Who are you?" Way too calm for the current situation, her soft voice contrasted in the macabre cabin. There was a good chance she was in shock. "My name is Aisling and I kill the monsters," I said, rising from the squatting position I had assumed to evaluate Isabella's injuries. "How did you know he was a monster?" The sound of raw pain and misplaced admiration in her voice broke my heart. "Oh, honey. They're all monsters." When vengeful Aisling Brooks must pretend to date Master vampire Roderick Keats, he tries his best to rock her views of the supernatural community. That doesn't stop her from trying to kill him though. Immersed in the very world she hates, Aisling must find the person that hired her or forfeit her life and those of her friends. Roderick becomes detached after her assassination attempt, while Aisling is cut off from her friends and help. It seems as if all of Roderick's people are aloof at best and homicidal at worst. As her preconceived ideals crumble beneath her, Aisling finds Roderick isn't the only one being hunted by the mysterious benefactor. While discovering that she might be the worst detective in history Aisling is sure of one thing: part of her will not survive trying to kill Roderick Keats.

Heart Right Through Verdugo by missweetmisery

Up until she turned 15, Emma's life was ordinary. Living in Los Angeles, she had a few friends, and loved learning history. She had a fascination with magic growing up, but after elementary, she moved on from the foolish idea, learning the hard way that magic isn't real and that it's only a lie Hollywood had fed her. But her whole perspective shifted again after the passing of her grandpa. She discovered that he had kept a secret from his whole family-that he once was a warlock. He had given up that life when he moved to L.A. in the 1970s, but Emma and her cousin Carolina are determined to learn every trick in the spell book he left behind. Fast forward to a year later, Emma's life takes a new turn. During junior year, a mysterious new student from San Bernardino catches her eye. He's mysterious, intriguing, and mostly keeps to himself, but why? It's what she wonders every day when they cross paths. Who in Glendale would want to be so secretive, anyway? Bobby Staten-that's who. Due to Bobby's classic leather jacket and dark aesthetic, Emma and her friends constantly joke that maybe he's a vampire and that's the secret he's hiding. It's no longer funny when a series of gruesome killings occur at Verdugo High, described by local officers as a bloody mark found on the necks of the victims. Strangely, this same pattern had appeared earlier in spring at a San Bernardino High School. Coincidence? Rebecca, Emma's other cousin, thinks not. Rebecca quickly suspects a connection and begins investigating Bobby's past and persona. As Emma befriends him, she struggles to believe that someone like Bobby could be capable of crimes so vicious. Rebecca reminds her that one of the only ways to permanently kill a vampire is with a stake through the heart-in much more poetic terms, heart right through Verdugo.
