Patchkit used to be a normal kit until his littermate, Fallenkit, scratches his eye out by accident. Patchkit holds a grudge until the night of their apprentice ceremony, when he finally forgives his brother for what he did when he recives his apprentice name, Scratchpaw. Life goes on, but the night of his apprentice ceremony, Scratchpaw has a dream that rocks his entire world. A cat named Ashface explains to Scratchpaw that the world isn't so perfect and something needs to be done about it. He urges Scratchpaw to kill one of his clanmates, and the young tom doesn't know what to think.
