Death is inevitable. It's a fact of human life. But majority of people don't take the time to think about one's mortality. But that was all that Audrey and Kara had on their minds with Audrey's up coming surgery. Audrey had a severe case of scoliosis that was getting worse every day and she and her family had tried every treatment they could to attempt to return her spine back to relatively normal, including being in a back brace for a year. If left untreated her spine could curve to the point that her ribs twist and pierce her heart. While the upcoming surgery would end Audrey's scoliosis related problems permanently, the girls still worried. With only a 0.007% chance of fatality during the surgery, she would be fine. But what if she wasn't? What if she was the 0.007%?

*THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION. ANY RELATION OF THE CHARACTERS OR SITUATIONS TO REAL LIFE ARE NOT INTENTIONAL AND ANY SIMILARITIES TO REAL LIFE ARE A RESULT OF COINCIDENCE* ---------- ""Mayuri, I don't want you to feel like you're ever alone," I couldn't tell, but I know X was holding his tears or something back. He was hiding something from me, but I couldn't tell what it was. "I don't want to hang up until you feel sleepy or want to rest. For as long as I've known you Mayuri, I know you hate being alone, especially if you're in the hospital. So, I made a promise to myself, that as long as you're awake, I'll stay awake with you, so you don't ever have to feel like you're all alone." ---------- What would it be like to be normal? What would it be like to not be scared to fall asleep at night and not be afraid to wake up? She has always wondered what it would be like to be someone else who wasn't in her shoes. Mayuri Crest has unfortunately developed narcolepsy at a young age and ever since then, her life has always been under constant surveillance, where people always pity her, but never really asked her about who she is. Her last year in high school though, she plans to make sure that she doesn't forget any of it. Mayuri plans to make her last year the best year she's ever had and finally, after the long, gruelling pain of alienated because of her conditions, both her medical and school wise, she would experience what it would be like to be like everyone else. ------- NOTE: There are possible trigger warnings in this novel e.g. suicidal thoughts. (Bfflad- Best friends for life and death) Dear Reader, Let's start at the beginning shall we? I died. Oh no, not one of these stories again where someone angelic and heroic saves the damsel in distress. If only I was that lucky. My heart stopped beating. My lungs stopped working, my soul began to lift away... And then I was saved by a beautiful man with a kind heart and sparkles sprinkled around his head in a golden halo. A cunning, dazzling smile etched his angled features and his hair lay perfectly on his head like...black, sinful layers of pure cynical distrusting evil. Evil that was just waiting to onset a innocent girl as myself and allow her a short amount of time of happiness, and then finish her off when she became older. I'll give you a hint. The beginning of that description was slightly exaggerated. The Angel of Death. One of the only creatures known that was capable of settling the boundaries of heaven on earth. The only creature capable of making one of the Devil's darkest deals to my loving mother; a second chance for her daughter. This comes with consequences of course. Everything you know about Death is wrong. Death is not natural, Death is not normal, Death is not doleful, and Death is far from mercenary. Death blends into the shadows like coal against the most atramentous sky. Death walks the earth with his cursed, monstrous and exotic features, his enticing voice and betraying alluring eyes. Death deceives, scratches, and plays with your mind, until you slowly and painfully loose your grip on reality. He'll make you believe he's a different person, that there's a sliver hope for him. Hope for you. Death is close. "Aren't you afraid?" "Of what? Dying?" "Yes, exactly that." She took a moment to deliberately pick the right words in her mind because she knew he was going to ask why the moment after she answered, "No. Death is unavoidable, it's a part of life that is inescapable since birth. It's written in our very nature. The problem is that people spend too much time worrying about death and not living their lives to their fullest potential. We were born to both live and die and that seems to be forgotten somewhere along the way. I am not afraid of dying even though I could die at any given day at any given time because I'm making the most of my life and I know that something better awaits me when I go." [Edited!]
