The messenger Lain has finally met all the qualifications to become a god. Except for one... he has to sacrifice human flesh to the underworld. Lain is the messenger of the god of Life and Creation. Most gods are "born" gods, so striving to become a god is quite irregular, and many gods disagree with the process, especially since it means sacrificing pure lives for the hunger of demons. But Lain craves the destruction and power of being a god. Lain was made by the god of Turmoil to be his messenger, but was taken under the wing of Creation after his master was defeated and sent to watch over the underworld. Lain was then tamed and is now not a demon, but still has urges that he can't quite explain. Now, Lain has his chance to claim his throne when he finds a girl walking alone in the dark, a girl by the name of Kira.
