As I stood on the porch of my new life, my heart quickened. Ever since my mum died, my life was constantly in fast forward. My dad flew me out to California almost immediately after hearing that my mum, his ex-wife, had passed. He didn't even allow time to mourn my old life, barely keeping me in Portland for her funeral. It wasn't like I had any other choice but to join him and his new family. He was all I had.
