Granite Gretta

When the sun goes down, the gravestone statues in Willow Hills Cemetery come to life--including Gretta. As an immortal Watcher of the dead, it's Gretta's job to protect her charge--the demanding, snarky spirit Quinn Rivera--from Death's Reapers prowling the night.

When Quinn's twin brother Jason confesses to her grave that he blames himself for her death, Quinn tries to make contact--but isn't a strong enough spirit. Then, Gretta meets a saddening realization: he's suicidal and has been taking pain killers to ease the guilt. The next pill could be a lethal dose--but breaking the rules and reaching out as a Watcher seems impossible. That is, until Gretta puts on Quinn's spirit item, a necklace.

Like magic, Gretta's stone body breaks and turns to flesh--a living, breathing girl who can venture outside the cemetery at night. After convincing Jason that Quinn's death wasn't his fault and to throw away the pills, her stone heart beats with love, garnering the attention of Death, the overseer of the Watchers who forbids contact with the living.

When her Watcher family is shattered to dust and Quinn's soul is kidnapped by an army of Reapers, it's clear that Death plans to take everything Gretta's ever loved for breaking the rules.
