Fifteen-year-old Skylar Smith lives with her younger sister and abusive parents. They used to be a happy family that is until Skylar's parents turned to alcohol. Skylar and her sister were put in foster care, then their parents went to rehab. They got their children back and then relapsed and started to abuse them. Teachers have become suspicious about the bruises on her sister's arm and Skylar's friends have wondered why she can never leave the house. Everyone has seen her bruises but she has never told anyone how she got them afraid of what her parents will do to her. But when Skylar realizes that the only choice she has to get away from her parents is something she never thought she would do.
