In the year 2084, Game developers from Nova Industries, a long time gaming giant has finally done it. They've created the first virtual reality game a (VRMMORPG), or Virtual Reality Mass Multiplayer Online Role playing Game known as "Kurai Tsuki Online" or Dark Moon Online.

Three years have passed since the loss of Tatsuki Adashi's parents. As the sole remaining member of his family, He dreads waking up in the morning. Everyday he goes through the motion's, living a life he doesn't enjoy, the only things keeping him going are his best friend, Hadashi Komoto, and video games. Video games have always been his escape from reality, a way to get away from the memories that haunt him every day, and be whoever he wishes to be. When he receives an invitation to visit Nova Industries and become on of the five hundred Beta testers for their new game, Kurai Tsuki Online. After Beta testing Kurai Tsuki Online, he finds himself finally feeling free from the burdens and emotions that hold him hostage. Tatsuki counts the hours until the official release, where he can delve back into Kurai Tsuki Online.

But what happens when the game he's come to love, the one that truly allows him to escape the pain of the real world; and the memories that haunt it, becomes a game of death? Trapped in the game along with one hundred and fifty thousand other players, will he be able to clear the game and escape? Or will he, and everyone else trapped in the game, meet an untimely end? Follow Tatsuki and his friends as they struggle to live in a world where death is at every corner.
