Rewritten and cleaned up version of a story I had written a year ago for a writing contest.
Prompt: "I ran as fast as I could, and behind me, I could hear the creatures, whimpering, snarling and panting. As I scrambled up the slope..." (Scholastic Writing Competition 2014)
Torn with guilt at her actions, Alyssa runs away from her family, not able to face what she had done.

The Last Day
There was never even me and you. There was only me waiting for you. It seems like I have always been here, in this space of time. Never moving an inch forward nor an inch behind. And its safe to say, that you will always expect thing between us to be this way. I was the net you fell on when you jumped too high, only to fall back down. But I'm tired of waiting when everything moves ahead and I'm still here behind, waiting for you to come back. And so I close the chapter, as my ink dries, knowing those words written or said could never be taken back. Even those unsaid ones that just lay between us. Now as I stand alone, isolated, while everything speeds past me, I slowly blink and let the weight fall from my arms. Because there never really was me and you. There will only be you waiting for me. ------ A story about a girl trying to mend her heart while finding her passion. My Teddy
The corner of his mouth tilts upward slightly. I smile again. A smile!? A tiny one, but still. "Hm. So I got you to smile, that's progress, yeah? Can I get your name now?" I ask, swinging my feel a little. He shakes his head shyly, his mouth not moving at all. Geez! Why do I want to hear this dude talk so much? "Okay, that's fine. I can give you a nickname." I offer happily. He looks up from his book, raising his eyebrows. I just stare for a moment. He has nice eyes. Pretty brown chocolate orbs. They remind me so much of....... "Teddy." He shakes his head immediately, frowning. "What, why not? You remind me of my old teddy bear. He was a good listener and he didn't talk much..... just like you." I say softly, tilting my head. He continues to shake his head. I fold my arms, leaning back in my seat. "Yeah, it's definitely sticking. Teddy.....It has a nice ring to it, yeah?" He sighs, the first sound I have ever heard him make. "No." . . . *Jordan* Teddy!? Seriously!? She gave me a fucking NICKNAME!? What the hell does this girl want!? I stuff my hands into my pockets, walking down the busy street. Forget about her. She's just a annoying pretty girl, she'll go away. Everybody does. She HAS to go away. *Spoiler alert*: she doesn't. Don't get close to people or they'll end up getting hurt. That's my mindset. I've been through enough of that. This girl doesn't belong in my world anyway. She's too innocent. *Mature content* {Just a quick update, I am basically rewriting the story. He'd shown nothing but hatred for me in public yet held me with aching tenderness when it was just us. I was sick of his games. He needed to decide whether he wanted me or not. "You parade new girls daily in front of my eyes," a sob escaped my throat. "And don't even deny you don't occasionally screw Charlotte behind my back." His ice blue eyes pierced my soul with his sharp gaze. He was teetering on the verge of lashing out on me. "How would you feel if I did the same to you, huh?" I pushed at his stiff chest. "Had several boyfriends, invited them to our home." His eyes cut to me, and a look darker than I've ever seen clouded his features I gestured to our grandiose home bought by his dizzying wealth. "And parade them right in front--" Before I knew it, I was face down and nearly suffocated by the soft material of our couch, I barely noticed my skirt pushed upwards and panties shoved aside. "You're my goddamn wife, Astoria. I will not tolerate your defiance." The sound of his belt loosening, zipper lowering, he entered me violently taking my breath with him. "Yet everyone thinks I'm still your charity case because you won't claim me." "You want to be claimed? Fine. But I am warning you, this lifestyle you're so accustomed to will be gone. I will be dirt poor and your family will be fired." "Then divorce and set me free. I am done being your dirty secret."
