Grace Teems is a mute after her parents' lethal car crash over a year ago. She spent hours behind closed doors with therapists in hopes to reconcile her condition, yet the efforts were pointless. Her words remained locked in her mind. Aunt Katherine, her legal guardian, decides to ship her off to the most prestige school for her "kind": Chamberlain School for the Mentally Disturbed. Despite her multiple attempts to push the school away and be disruptive, Chamberlain begins to grow on her once she meets a mysterious someone. Kyle Johnson has backslid. After spending two years at Chamberlain, his therapists' efforts of abolishing depression and thoughts of suicide have disappeared. His mother is diagnosed with breast cancer, and so his life spirals out of control. Kyle first spots Grace during registration and is immediately intrigued by her eyes that dance with wisdom and hair that sways with some unheard rhythm. Grace makes it her personal duty to get to know this mysterious boy and in the meantime, distract herself from what is truly going on. However, people can only distract themselves from life's problems until it catches up to them-- and when it does, it may cause more casualties then expected.
