The McMiye clan is one of the oldest clans of shape-shifters in the world. Their clan is different from any others because their clan shifts earlier than the others and can only change to mammals, where other clans can change into any animal. The McMiye clan usually start shifting at 17, whereas the other clans start shifting at 21.
Faye Anne McMiye is 16 and has started preparing for her shift with the help of her mother when an urgent message is sent out; a rival clan, the Ralley's, are challenging the McMiye clan for territory and have taken one of the McMiye hostage. The Ralley's are known for not backing down from a fight, even if they are about to die.
The McMiye clan is about to lose the battle, so Faye's father makes her change a year early and without much preparation. Faye is about to go through the worst pain of her life, but her father says it will make her stronger and more resistant to pain.
Faye has no idea how to shift or what will happen, but for the sake of her father and looking strong in front of the clan, Faye has agreed to do it.

Yes, there is a castle for the academy and no, there isn't any witch or wizards those are supposedly extinct. Now I have to go were going to find out what animal we shift into at the ceremony soon.
