What's In A Name (A Winter Soldier Fanfiction)

Layla Jackson thought she'd never see the day when the world she knew would suddenly crumble all around her. Her family has fallen apart, war takes men to the battle front from her home, and all she has left is her identity. But when an opportunity to do more for herself drops itself at her feet, she doesn't hesitate.

Leaving her two best friends and mother behind, she goes to fight over seas, unknowingly setting herself on a pedestal.

A German scientist who had defected to the US comes to her, telling her is eligible to help him with a serum he created, supposedly able to give one special abilities. She accepts his offer, but at a price she is ignorant to. The experiment seemingly doesn't work, so she's let go to instead go on different missions for Colonel Phillips. While on a crucial mission, she suddenly starts to show signs of the serum, but because of how erratic it is, it causes Layla to be captured by the Nazi science division, HYDRA. There, they do tests on her, trying to get the serum out of her system to duplicated use for themselves. This causes her great pain and to experience a PTSD/autistic like side affect.

When she is rescued by her newly empowered friend, Steve Rogers, she is hospitalized and monitored by Howard Stark. Through his less pernicious tests, he comes to the discovery that the only way to heal her is to put her under a cryogenic freeze until they can develop technology to save her, as being one of the first super soldiers has made her invaluable to the military.

When she wakes, things are infinitely more surprising than she thought they would ever be. So much has changed, she even has trouble defining good from evil, right from wrong, and friend from foe.
